Black Belt with Lean Tools - 4 week program

During this four week course we'll discuss how Lean Six Sigma is a business improvement approach that focuses on optimizing processes.  Certified Black Belts lead complex quality improvement projects that result in measureable and sustainable meaningful changes.


Spring 2013 Session:  CLOSED Week 1 -- May 13-16, 2013, Week 2 -- Jun 17-21, Week 3 -- July 15 - 19, Week 4 -- Aug 12-16, 

Fall 2013 Session:  Week 1 -- Sep 16-19, 2013, Week 2 -- Oct 14-18, Week 3 -- Nov 11-16, Week 4 -- Dec 9-13, 

The Six Sigma methodology strategically focuses on how to:

*Improve customer focus   

*Streamline support processes

*Reduce the cost of poor quality 

*Increase productivity

Completing four weeks of in-class study delivered over four months, Black Belts learn the five step DMAIC process, and become positioned to lead improvement team efforts that solve quality issues and produce large returns.

Tools and Topics:

Change Management & Leadership Skills: As project leads, Black Belts must know how to handle, manage, and overcome roadblocks and the skepticism that accompanies these roadblocks. Topics covered include transformational leadership, adult learning, motivating teams, creating learning environments, creating identity, building relationships, strategic thinking, coaching and development planning.

Statistical Analysis: Use and application of Minitab statistical analysis software to support the use of data in driving decisions and actions for improvement. Topics include data display techniques, sources of variation analysis, process capability, comparative methods, regression analysis, design of experiment and control charts.

DMAIC Methodology: The cornerstone of this certification is understanding how to define the issue, measure its baseline performance, analyze the root cause, identify improvement ideas and ensure improvements made are controlled and sustainable. Topics include team charters, pareto principle, SIPOC diagrams, process mapping, root cause analysis and pilot studies.

Lean Topics: Inefficiency can be just as large of a problem as ineffectiveness. Lean tools are provided that focus on identifying and reducing the 7 Wastes, such as value stream mapping, 5-S and mistake-proofing.
